The MEF announced that the number of MEF Carrier Ethernet Certified Professionals (MEF-CECPs) has grown 350% in the last 24 months to 3,191 individuals employed by 357 organizations in 72 countries. The number of professionals certified in the month of April 2015 was the second highest monthly performance on record since the MEF-CECP program began.

The growing, widespread popularity of the MEF-CECP program is due in large part to the number of service providers and network equipment vendors that have adopted the communications industry’s first vendor-neutral certification program as part of their job training/career development programs,” said Daniel Bar-Lev, Director of Certification and Strategic Programs at the MEF.

Level 3 Communications and Time Warner Cable lead the market with 337 and 319 MEF-CECPs, respectively. They are followed by Fujitsu Network Communications, Coriant, and TATA Communications, each of which have 120 or more MEF-CECPs in their organization. These companies and others have adopted company-wide strategies to ensure that their key employees obtain a thorough Carrier Ethernet training and MEF-CECP certification.

Surpassing the 3,000 MEF-CECP milestone in such a short time frame is an important proof point that Carrier Ethernet has become the common language for digital communications globally,” said Nan Chen, President of the MEF. “While North America continues to lead with 66% of all MEF-CECPs, a growing number of professionals are being certified across all regions. We see very significant and steady growth particularly in Asia Pacific countries, which account for 18% of all MEF-CECPs. In fact, 5 of the top 8 countries with MEF-CECPs are in the APAC region – India, Australia, Philippines, China, and Singapore.”

In November 2014, the MEF introduced the MEF Carrier Ethernet Certified Professional of the Year Award as a new category for its annual Excellence Awards program. The winner of the 2014 MEF-CECP of the Year Award was Sendang Praptomo of Telekomunikasi Indonesia International Pte Ltd (Telin Singapore), who provides a superb example of what can be achieved from this training. Following his certification, he led the development of standardized, certified services for Telin Singapore, the International arm of PT. Telekomunikasi Indonesia (Telkom Group).

Commenting on his award, Sendang Praptomo said, “This is one of the highest accolades you can give an engineer in recognition of his or her dedication to supporting Carrier Ethernet business growth, whether internally within their organization or externally in the industry. And because this certification isn’t tied-in to any specific vendor, we are able to implement its knowledge across the company, whether with service providers, enterprises, or government institutions. It also enables us to communicate internally using common terms, and this has increased our productivity and helped us gain business.”
