Dr. Sayed Peerzade, EVP & Chief Cloud Officer, Yotta Data Services, tells us more. Excerpts from a chat.

DQ: Can you discuss how data centers and cloud platforms assist in data management and accessibility, ensuring that organizations have the necessary data resources to train their AI systems effectively? How do data centers and cloud infrastructure contribute to the scalability and performance of AI applications?

Dr. Sayed Peerzade: Given that AI workloads are built, tested and operated on large volumes of data, it is critical for organizations to gain access to high-uptime data center and cloud infrastructure that’s capable of providing hyperscale storage and high-performance computing capabilities. However, building such infrastructure involves huge capital investment for IT infrastructure, skilled resources, power and cooling infrastructure, in addition to recurring operational and maintenance costs.

Thus, third-party data centers that allow support for AI through their high-performance cloud computing services, and a large data storage capacity, have become the need of the hour. Combined with seamless network and connectivity, these data centers serve as the core of AI innovation – from development and testing to runtime.

It must be also noted that with an evolving AI landscape, data centers will also need to evolve from traditional storage facilities to hyperscale, high-performance and highly efficient facilities. Besides, the industry will need around 10x more data center capacities that can cater to AI needs.

We, at Yotta, understand this and our mission is aligned precisely with it. Alongside the development of a network of hyperscale and edge data centers across the country, we equip our data centers with every capability needed to power all kinds of AI workloads – from massive storage, high-performance computing, robust connectivity, highly efficient cooling systems, leak-proof cybersecurity mechanisms and more. Moreover, Yotta is set to launch India’s own hyperscale cloud platform in January 2024, which will further bolster AI innovation.

DQ: How can data centers and the cloud address concerns like data security and privacy in AI applications, while enabling organizations to leverage AI effectively?

Dr. Sayed Peerzade: Due to the data-intensive nature of AI workloads, concerns about data security are valid and inevitable. To maintain compliance with regulatory requirements of data protection, it’s important that organizations evaluate cloud platforms and third-party data centers basis their needs.

Catering to businesses from different industries, data center service providers are required to adhere to a broad range of data protection and cybersecurity frameworks, which allows them to serve the needs of each industry. Ensuring secure data protection requires a comprehensive approach that combines technological measures, governance frameworks, and cybersecurity best practices.

Yotta’s data centers and cloud services, for instance, adhere to numerous Indian and global standards of data localization, cybersecurity, information security, data protection among others. Yotta Enterprise Cloud services are also empanelled with MeitY, which enables us to also cater to public sector organisations and governments.

At Yotta, we have implemented advanced systems, allowing us to provide data encryption, access control, and a secure network to our clients. This helps them find a harmonious balance between effectively harnessing AI and ensuring data security and privacy in their AI applications hosted within our data centers and cloud platform.
