HP delivers enterprise architecture for evolving business demands

HP announced enterprise architecture innovations that help customers reduce cost and complexity, accelerate IT service delivery and enable business growth. The new solutions enable a next-generation data center designed to rapidly virtualize, simplify and automate processes to address evolving business demands.

To deliver rapid business value, organizations are looking to big data, cloud, mobility and security to drive revenue. However, transitioning to the New Style of IT is often hindered by the complexity and disjointed architecture plaguing data centers today. This is fueling the growth of software-defined data centers (SDDCs) – where infrastructure is virtualized, delivered as a service and controlled by software, in an open, agile and cost-effective way – in addition to other data center innovations.

HP is delivering enterprise-proven infrastructure solutions to enable organizations to transform their enterprise architectures, including:

· Two new HP ProLiant Moonshot servers delivering high-density, ARM-based systems for hyperscale, datacenter environments.

· HP SDN App Store, the first enterprise-grade software-defined networking (SDN) application ecosystem in the market providing HP’s ecosystem partners a go-to-market platform together with consulting and support services that will enable customers to uncover the business value of SDN.

· HP StoreVirtual Virtual Storage Appliance (VSA) license at no cost to all purchasers of Intel® Xeon® E5 v3-based servers and single-click installation on new HP ProLiant Gen9 Server models, to help customers easily and cost-effectively adopt software-defined storage (SDS).

· HP 3PAR StoreServ 7200 All-Flash Starter Kit, which removes cost barriers to flash adoption by offering affordable application performance acceleration.

Unleashing the power of ARM to accelerate performance

Workloads such as web caching, high-performance computing and big data analytics are fueling exponential demand for compute resources. Combining HP Moonshot innovations with the breakthrough capabilities of ARM® v8-A 64-bit architecture enables optimal compute with maximum memory and I/O throughput for web caching. The new HP ProLiant m400 servers, based on the X-GeneTM Server on a ChipTM from Applied Micro Circuits Corporation with Canonical Ubuntu operating system, saves on power, cooling and space, providing up to 35 percent reduction in total cost of ownership compared to rack servers.(1)

Additionally, HP is making available a production-ready platform to enable software developers to develop, test and port applications to the 64-bit ARM server.

HP is also introducing the new HP ProLiant m800 optimized for real-time data processing of high volume, complex data, such as fraud detection pattern analysis. The 32-bit ARM servers deliver three times more bandwidth and 90 percent low latency data throughput.(2)

The new HP ProLiant Moonshot servers are the result of a multi-year effort involving customer input and ARM ecosystem expansion to deliver solutions that help customers improve application performance, drive business innovation and deliver breakthrough datacenter economics.

Redefining an open, SDN-enabled application ecosystem

IDC predicts that the market for SDN network applications will reach $1.1 billion by 2017,(3) increasing network application vendors’ need for a scalable open marketplace to monetize their innovations.

As the first enterprise-grade SDN application ecosystem in the market, the HP SDN App Store redefines the networking business model, offering the developer community a centralized platform connecting to customers around the world. Customers can now easily discover, learn and purchase specific network applications and download them to their environment for testing and live deployment.

Taking SDS mainstream

Virtualization continues to be the fastest growing infrastructure trend, but adoption remains a challenge at smaller sites that lack the budgets, space and storage expertise required by enterprise-class storage solutions.(4)

To help customers simplify and cost-optimize server virtualization, over the next year HP and Intel will distribute licenses for more than 72 Petabytes of SDS capacity at no additional charge to customers. Under this program, any customer that purchases an Intel® Xeon® E5 v3-based server will be able to download HP StoreVirtual VSA software and obtain a license for 1TB of SDS capacity at no cost from hp.com/go/unlockVSA. With an HP StoreVirtual VSA license, customers can easily adopt SDS by deploying resilient shared storage for less cost and physical footprint as compared to dedicated storage hardware.

“Single-click” SDS enables a simple path to cost-optimized server virtualization

With Intelligent Provisioning, an HP ProLiant Gen9 Server feature that now automates VSA deployment as part of server setup, HP customers can deploy SDS with only a single click. Configured in just minutes, HP ProLiant Gen9 servers running VSA software offer a complete solution that supports virtualized applications and shared storage on the same hardware for substantial cost savings.
