Internet users were surprised late last night as they typed in Google.com, a small hand erased the Google logo and using a'crayon' wrote a new 'Google' stating that as its new logo from now on. This happens to be the 7th logo refresh for Google in the last 17 years.
Close on the heels of Sundar Pichai taking the reigns of Google as CEO, the company yesterday announced a redesigned logo in a bid to be in sync with times. In a blog post Google said, " We have changed a lot over the past 17 years—from the range of our products to the evolution of their look and feel. And today we’re changing things up once again"
The question: Why this Logo redesign?
Google believes that over the last 2 decades the search industry has seen a sea change in terms of access device patterns. From PC centric it has evolved to mobiles, apps and tablets. And often times its a challenge to create that same level of user experience across form factors and devices. So the new logo is aimed to create that seamlessness.
"Google logo and branding, which were originally built for a single desktop browser page, and updated them for a world of seamless computing across an endless number of devices and different kinds of inputs (such as tap, type and talk). It doesn’t simply tell you that you’re using Google, but also shows you how Google is working for you," said Google in its blog post.
