New Update

The 21st century has seen digital technology integrating

various products / functions. Using such document servers, one can scan material

at high speed, and then prepare documents in word, excell or power point formats

and other imaging products. A consolidated file can then be electronically

stored on the internal hard disk. A powerful electronic document and filing

system can thus be created and with the help of an in-built faxing facility,

such a document can be transmitted to a remote location.

A document server can provide fast, efficient and secure means of storage, retrieval and transfer of documents. It is also possible to connect a document server and a set of computer workstations on to a local area network. The document server is then connected to a private leased network or public telephone network, using high-speed ISDN lines. Thus, if such multiple stations are available, one can transfer documents in less than five seconds directly, over the desktop

Since these machines also have a built-in laser printer, the

original document is reproduced with 100% accuracy and clarity and that too on

plain paper. Adding electronic signatures and making sure that only the

authorized person is able to access the document, can ensure its security. If

all this can be done in a very short time, then we can create a system of

e-governance where government files and documents will move electronically from

one office to another in a secure environment. Because of the in-built computer

processor and hard disk, these document servers can work as stand alone machines

and provide fast, efficient and secure means of storage, retrieval and transfer

of documents.

Gestetner, a pioneer in digital imaging systems has launched

a new concept in intelligent document storage, retrieval and document transfer

management. This turnkey document management system featuring network printing,

digital copying and fax functions combines advanced components, cutting-edge

technology and new software. The e-Cabinet is an office information management

solution, designed for the day to day document handling needs of large

workgroups or medium sized businesses.

E-Governance does not end with just providing information to

public but can be used to process documents or orders from one government

department to another. The system can have wide applications in government

ministries, defense, railways, and other offices of the centre and the state

governments.
