MphasiS Net up 57%
The MphasiS groups net profit for the quarter ended June 30, 2007, increased by 57% from Rs 32.6 crore to Rs 51.3 crore. Revenues were at Rs 532 crore, an increase of 42% over the same quarter last year. Operating profit during the quarter was Rs 67.2 crore as against Rs 29 crore in the year ago quartera growth of 132%.

Brocade Joins Oracle Linux Program
Brocade has announced that it has joined the Oracle Unbreakable Linux program providing full interoperability between Brocade Storage Area Network (SAN) switches and the Oracle Enterprise Linux. The companies running Oracle Enterprise Linux can now integrate and deploy Brocade switches with a wide range of products.

Philips Forays Into IT Accessories Segment
Philips Electronics has announced its India foray into the IT accessories and computer peripherals segment. The company has also entered into an exclusive tie-up with SES Technologies, one of Indias top five IT distribution companies, for pan-India distribution of its products.

Sun Launches Startups Essentials for India
Sun Microsystems has announced the launch of its Startups Essentials program in India as well as in China, to help new companies. The program would handhold the startups in development model and accelerate the development cycle.

Nipuna Ready for Acquisition
Nipuna Services releases that it would be able to finalize an acquisition in 12-18 months. Additionally the BPO unit of Hyderabad-based Satyam Computers, would shift focus towards knowledge related services. Knowledge and related services are the focus of the market today, which is growing at the rate of 30- 40%, where Nipuna is focusing.

Nokia Issues Advisory for BL-5C Battery
Nokia has issued a product advisory for the Nokia-branded BL-5C battery manufactured between December 2005 and November 2006 by Matsushita Battery Industrial Co of Japan. Nokia has identified that in very rare cases the Nokia-branded BL-5C batteries could potentially experience overheating initiated by a short circuit while charging, causing the battery to dislodge.

ELCOT Deploys Linux in Schools
The Electronics Corporation of Tamil Nadu (ELCOT) in India has announced the implementation of SUSE Linux Enterprise across 30,000 desktops and 1,880 servers in Tamil Nadus schools. ELCOT itself has migrated its entire IT infrastructure from Microsoft Windows to SUSE Linux Enterprise Server and SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop from Novell.

IBM to Consolidate Servers
IBM has announced that it would consolidate thousands of computer servers onto about thirty System z mainframes running the Linux operating system. The new server environment would consume approximately 80% less energy than the current set up and expects to save IBM more than $250 mn over five years.

MS Selects Wipro
Wipro Technologies has announced its selection by Microsoft as an authorized test house for Windows Server 2008 certification test services. Wipro would help Independent Software Vendors (ISVs) worldwide earn the "Certified for Windows Server 2008" logo.

SpikeSource Teams MS
SpikeSource has announced plans to work together with Microsoft to certify all of SpikeSources SpikeIgnited solutions on the Microsoft Windows platform. SpikeSources decision provides its customers with more flexibility and increased platform interoperability.

Virtusa Listed on NASDAQ
Virtusa has started trading its common stock on the Nasdac from August 3 under the symbol VRTU. The pricing of its initial public offering of 4,400,000 shares of its common stock is at a price to the public of $14 per share. The underwriters also have a 30-day option to purchase up to an additional 462,795 shares of common stock from selling stockholders.

NIIT Q1 PAT Up 17%
NIIT has posted an increase of 17% consolidated net profit to Rs 15.4 crore for the first quarter ended 30 June 2007, compared to Rs 13.2 crore posted during the corresponding quarter previous year. The company recorded net revenues of Rs 225.4 crore, representing a 104% increase over the same period the previous year.

Google Distributes Sun StarOffice
Google has started distributing Sun Microsystems StarOffice suite for free. The suite, which comprises word processing, spreadsheet, and other programs are now distributed as part of Google Pack download. This follows Google and Suns software distribution partnership of sorts, announced almost two years ago. Googles version of StarOffice does not have Suns technical support.

Intelligroup Q2 Revenues Up 10%
Intelligroup, a consulting, business optimization, and outsourcing firm serving global corporations, has reported results for its second quarter and six-month period ended June 30, 2007. The company reported second quarter 2007 revenues of $36.0 mn, up 10% increase from $32.7 mn in the first quarter of 2007 and a 14 per cent increase from $31.6 million in the second quarter of 2006.

i-flex Q1 Net at Rs 36 Cr
i-flex Solutions has posted net income of Rs 36.7 crore for Q1 ended on 30 June 2007, a marginal rise by 5%, when compared to Rs 35.1 crore posted during the corresponding quarter during the previous year. The company posted a growth of 27% with revenue at Rs 513 crore as compared to Rs 403 crore for the corresponding quarter during the previous year.

Satyam Bags Two Contracts from FIFA
Satyam Computer Services has announced that it has signed two multimillion-dollar contracts to support FIFA and its major forthcoming events. Satyam has been selected to develop a customized Event Management System and also chosen to build an Extranet and Intranet for FIFA over the next 12 months.

Megasoft Q2 PAT Up 17%
Megasoft has reported profit after tax of Rs 9.45 crore for Q2 ended June 30, 2007, up by 17% as compared to Rs 8.07 crore posted in the corresponding quarter previous year. The revenues grew from Rs 37.72 crore to Rs 60.11 crore up by 59% y-o-y. Telecom revenues for the quarter grew by 77% to Rs 24.49 crore from Rs 13.83 crore.

Cognizant Posts Q2 Net Profit of $82.3 mn
Cognizant Technology Solutions has posted net income of $82.3 mn for Q2 ended 30 June 2007, as against $55.1 mn posted in the corresponding quarter previous year. Revenue for Q2 increased to $516.5 mn, up 12% from $460.3 mn in the first quarter of 2007, and up 53% from $336.8 mn posted in the corresponding quarter previous year.
