The Top 10: 7 - Aztec Software Technologies: Fast Lane to Growth
Fast track growth, speedy recognition mechanism and a strong learning culture-that's the Aztecsoft differentiator
Wednesday, September 06, 2006

Aztec, a new participant in our survey, has walked into the Top 10. A niche player in the product engineering space, Aztec was set up in 1997. The high-end technology work that happens at the company sets it apart from most of the better-known players in the industry and acts a great motivator for its employees.

Learning is a critical component of the organization culture at Aztec, but most people shrug away from training the moment it becomes mandatory. Hence, says Girish Nair, senior VP, Global HR, “We made a transition from a training culture to a learning culture by making training voluntary and participative.”

Today, what HR does is that it puts together the list of training modules the company offers and employees approach HR for their training needs depending on the behavioral competencies they need to possess. Aztec also received the Golden Peacock Award from the Times Foundation in November last year for 'Commitment to Training and Building a Learning Organization'.  Training also happens in smaller groups of just around 25 people at a time. Says Nair, “The cost is more but the results are better.” An open communication culture promoted consciously does away with hierarchical roadblocks and opens the doors to a more participative work environment.

A culture of performance-driven growth acts as a motivator. The idea is to allow people to grow on the basis of their performance and not factors like years of experience. Another thought that drives this culture is to allow employees to be a part of the fast track growth trajectory that the company is in. Typically, recognition is an incentive in smaller organizations like Aztecsoft as opposed to large organizations where individual performances often go unacknowledged. Then there is the added incentive of getting to work on high-end technology. That's what makes Aztechsoft one of the best employers this year.
