New Update

Computer Maintenance Corp (CMC) began its operations in computer maintenance way back in 1976–the same year that IBM backed out of India after its first entry. Although hardware maintenance continues to be a focus area, CMC has now spread its wings in a number of other areas of support. After a reduction in the Government’s stake from 81% to 51%, the company expects an improvement in further expansion and implementation of new management policies.

CMC’s activities have advanced in many new directions. The company is one of the leading system integrators in India and has expertise in online systems, process control, transaction processing, image processing, data communications, networking and parallel architectures. Integrated with this ‘horizontal’ expertise in IT, CMC also offers ‘vertical’ expertise in a range of industries–infrastructural, such as power, coal, oil and transport; and service, such as banking, education, law and order.

Computer centers have been set up all over India to provide computer education and training programs. Software development in data communications and database management have become one of CMC’s fastest growing activities. The R&D center at Hyderabad has handled pioneering projects in contemporary technology. Interact, funded by the United Nations, is a significant milestone. It is aimed at fostering self-reliance through design, development and systems engineering dedicated to

development-oriented applications. A number of professionals from Nigeria, Peru, Philippines, Yugoslavia and other developing countries worked with CMC on the project.

INDONET, a communications network set up by CMC, has been revamped to incorporate new protocols and communication lines. Through this unit, the company is targeting businesses with solutions for EDI and

ecommerce.
