Autodesk Announces Winners for ‘BUILDSMART’ an Online Competition

Autodesk organized an online competition ‘BUILDSMART’ to inspire sustainable designs in architecture and construction, which received extensive participation from architects, engineers, and designers in India. The winning project fulfilled requirements of designing and conceptualizing a smart building using Autodesk Revit. The Jaipur based architect Arushi Bafna, proposed an efficient, cost-effective and functionally viable housing unit idea - an open space design plan which will use locally available material and will be ideal for any Koliwada in Mumbai.

The jury for ‘BUILDSMART’, comprised of  Gita Balakrishnan, founder and owner of Ethos India, Bimal Patwari, CEO of Pinnacle Infotech, and Mr. Sunil MK, Head of Architecture, Engineering and Construction, Autodesk, India & SAARC.

The winner, Arushi Bafna, is a young achiever in the field of architecture, interior design and furniture design, believes that Architecture is an applied art, driven by the theory of materials. She said, “Through BUILDSMART Autodesk provided a platform to conceptualize and design a smart building; "SMART" not only in terms of different looking but in its functionality as well. Hence, I created a house for a Koliwada in Mumbai, by using Autodesk Revit- which makes the design functionally effective. The house I developed meets the demands of Koliwada community and, is reflective of all the criteria’s required to build a “SMART” and cost effecting building.”

Sunil M.K, Head of AEC, Autodesk, India & SAARC said, “BUILDSMART is a perfect example of how creative thinking, coupled with Autodesk’s cutting-edge design and visualization technologies, can help architects and planners create sustainable design solutions.
