Ashok Soota 

A high-profile CEO who is a role model and now an entrepreneur. That is Ashok Soota, Chief Executive Officer and Chairman, MindTree Consulting. In his checkered career, Soota has always wielded that flair to make things work. An electrical engineer with an MBA from the Asian Institute of Management in the Philippines, he began his career with the Shriram Group of Industries in 1965. His last assignment with the group, from 1978-1984 was as Chief Executive of Shriram Refrigeration, a company whose revival he was responsible for. In 1984 he took over as the President of Wipro Infotech, a Rs7 crore company, and made it into a Rs1,000 crore grant making Wipro the largest publicly listed IT company in India. He spearheaded the formation of Wipro IT group’s strategic alliances

including formation of the JV with 



Acer of Taiwan. In August ‘99 Soota co-founded MindTree Consulting along with nine other professionals. MindTree Consulting is a venture capital-funded software services company providing high-end solutions in ecommerce and telecom. 

Ashok Soota was the Chairman of the Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) for South India, Chairman for CII’s

National Committees for Electronics 



and Information Technology and President of MAIT. As a recognition of his contributions to the industry he was adjudged
the ‘Electronics Man of the Year’ for 1992 by Elcina, ‘IT Man of the Year’ for 1994

by Dataquest and ‘IT Man of the Year’ for 1997 by Computer World. He was a member of the Prime Minister’s task

force for development of the IT industry in India. Soota is also a Member of the Advisory Council of the World

Intellectual Property Organization, Geneva.
