This Chennai-based company clocked a turnover of Rs 426 crore and registered a growth of 168%. Revenues came from two broad areas–training and software development. And these were the core functions of its two divisions, SSI Education and SSI Technologies. While training accounted for Rs 220

crore, software development raked in another Rs 169 crore. Gross profits also increased from Rs 88 crore to Rs 142

crore.

On the training front, the company was able to achieve good margins by focusing on short-term and high-end courses. The education division forged alliance agreements with Oracle Software India and Sun Microsystems. It also upgraded its ‘Impact’ program by incorporating emerging technologies like .NET, Sun One, ASP and C#. The content development group of the company’s education division is working on an educational courseware for Asera Corporation, US.

In March 2001, SSI signed a repeat order with Citibank to develop CBT

programs. The company’s acquisition of Albion Orion also helped, as it increased its exposure to Fortune 1,000 clients.
